Il risultato di uno studio fondato sull’osservazione, sull’analisi e sulla scoperta che supera la soglia della superficie reale per insinuarsi nella dimensione artistica, si concretizza in PLANETEN. Un percorso su più livelli, quello di Rebecca Agnes che, supportata dal suo bagaglio culturale, visivo ed esperienziale, attraversa la dimensione fisica e quella mentale, elaborando una narrazione volta ad evocare i nessi tra letteratura, scienza, immaginario personale e collettivo.
Il rapporto tra arte e cosmo si é sviluppato, fin dalle società primitive, attraverso forme simboliche ed allegorie la cui interpretazione é stata fonte primaria di ispirazione per artisti e scrittori. Tuttavia la forza demistificatrice della ragione e del progresso ha spogliato gli oggetti ed i fenomeni del loro alone mitico, portando l’uomo postmoderno ad avvalersi di una raffigurazione dell’universo suffragata dalla razionalità scientifica.
PLANETEN realizza una sintesi tra campi che le dinamiche della modernità sembrano aver reso inconciliabili: mediante l’utilizzo di diversi mezzi espressivi – il video ed il ricamo – l’artista svela un’interessante prospettiva analitica che concilia le esigenze della scienza con quelle della letteratura. I lavori di Rebecca Agnes sono fisici e concreti, ma anche ingannevoli ed illusori. Che siano la rappresentazione di mondi astratti ripresi da opere letterarie o titoli di romanzi di fantascienza e mappe ricamati su tela, riflettono l’impossibilità di tracciare un identikit dell’universo, separando le scoperte scientifiche dal variegato immaginario collettivo ormai consolidato dalla narrativa. The results of a study based on observation, analysis, and discovery that overcome the threshold of the real surface to creep into an artistic dimension is materialized into PLANETEN. It is a path on several levels, which, Rebecca Agnes, supported by her cultural visual and experiential background, passes through the physical and mental dimensions, developing a narrative aimed to evoke the connections between literature, science, personal and collective imagery. Since primitive society, the relationship between art and cosmos has been developed through allegories and symbolic forms, whose interpretation has been the primary source of inspiration for artists and writers. However, the demystifying strength of reason and progress has deprived objects and phenomena of their mythical aura, bringing the postmodern man to rely on a representation of the universe substantiated by scientific rationality. PLANETEN achieves a synthesis between subject matters that the dynamics of modernity have rendered irreconcilable. By using different expressive media, video and embroidery, the artist unveils an interesting analytic perspective that reconciles the prerequisites of science with those of literature. The works of Rebecca Agnes are physical and concrete, but also deceptive and illusory. They can be a depiction of abstract worlds inspired by literature or titles of sci-fi novels, or maps embroidered on canvas; they all reflect the impossibility of tracing an identikit of the universe by splitting the scientific discoveries from the multifaceted public imagination already consolidated by the narrative.
