Pussy Riot speaks in jail
Le Pussy Riot parlano da dietro le sbarre. Il loro discorso è in realtà un inno al coraggio
As anticipated in our previous article, Pussy Riot’s trial, held in late July, was a real farce, the Russian government institutions have spread out the worst of the worst. Now the three heroines face up to seven years in prison but the world of art and culture in general is already deployed on their side. The artists had organized a combative performance in front of the headquarters of the Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarch Cyril I. The action consisted of a Punk Prayer, a prayer to save Russia from Putin. Unfortunatelythe police promptly arrested Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina Yekaterina Samutsevich and then also the third member of the group. In response to the mock trial, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova rilascaito has the following statements:”Essentially, it is not three singers from Pussy Riot who are on trial here. If that were the case, what’s happening would be totally insignificant. It is the entire state system of the Russian Federation which is on trial and which, unfortunately for itself, thoroughly enjoys quoting its cruelty towards human beings, its indifference to their honour and dignity, the very worst that has happened in Russian history to date.We called for contact and dialogue rather than conflict and opposition. We reached out a hand to those who, for some reason, assume we are their enemies. In response they laughed at us and spat in our outstretched hands. “You’re disingenuous,” they told us. But they needn’t have bothered. Don’t judge others by your own standards. We were always sincere in what we said, saying exactly what we thought, out of childish naïvety, sure, but we don’t regret anything we said, even on that day. We are reviled but we do not intend to speak evil in return. We are in desperate straits but do not despair. We are persecuted but not forsaken. It’s easy to humiliate and crush people who are open, but when I am weak, then I am strong.”Declarations of Pussy Riot sound like a manifesto, a peaceful declaration of war that makes everyone not to give up. Come già anticipato in un nostro precedente articolo, il processo alle Pussy Riot, tenutosi alla fine di luglio, è stato una vera farsa. Tra testimoni dell’accusa che avevano osservato i “delitti” delle tre componenti della punk band solamente dalla televisione e testimoni della difesa non convocati, le istituzioni governative russe hanno sciorinato il peggio del peggio. Ora le tre eroine rischiano fino a sette anni di prigione ma il mondo dell’arte e della cultura in genere si èp già schierato dalla loro parte. Le battagliere artiste avevano organizzato una performance davanti la sede della chiesa ortodossa del Patriarca di Mosca Cirillo I. l’azione in questione consisteva in una Punk Prayer, una preghiera Punk per salvare la russia dalle spire di Putin. Purtroppo Cirillo I non ha gradito e le forze dell’ordine hanno prontamente arrestato Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina ed in seguito anche Yekaterina Samutsevich, terzo componente del gruppo. In risposta al processo farsa, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova ha rilascaito le seguenti dichiarazioni: “In sostanza il processo non è rivolto solamente alle Pussy Riot, ma all’intera nazione perché le autorità russe si sono più volte macchiate di crudeltà nei confronti degli esseri umani. Noi abbiamo cercato un dialogo piuttosto di rispondere con un’opposizione od un conflitto. Abbiamo teso una mano verso i nostri nemici ed in risposta loro ci hanno riso contro ci hanno dato delle ingenue. Ma noi siamo sempre state sincere, forse un poco naif ma non rimpiangiamo nulla di quanto detto anche nel giorno del misfatto. E’ facile umiliare gente schietta e sincera. Siamo in una situazione disperata ma non disperiamo, siamo perseguitate ma non dimenticate. Quando si è deboli si è anche forti”. Le dichiarazioni delle Pussy Riot suonano come un Manifesto, una pacifica dichiarazione di guerra che incita chiunque a non mollare. Forza Pussies, Globartmag è dalla vostra parte!
